STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1901, page 5, column 4 WILLIAM D. FRENCH, 15 Apr 1827 - 23 Sep 1901 DIED AT THE HOME OF Benj. McGrew and wife in Angola, Ind., Sept 23, 1901, William D. French, aged 74 years, 5 months and 8 days. Deceased was born in Oswego county, New York, and came to Steuben county in 1852, settling on a farm in Scott township, where he lived until 1856, when he moved to Angola, where he worked at the blacksmith trade for many years and later engaged in the agricultural implement business. On the death of his wife some three years ago, he closed out his business and has lived a retired life. Mr. French has six brothers who are living. He has been an enthusiastic Republican ever since the party was organized. Funeral services will be held today at two o'clock in the Congregational church, Rev. P. E. Holp officiating. His estate is valued at about $6,000 and is distributed by the will as follows: To his wife's sister, Mrs. Anna B. Moore, he gave $1,250; to his brothers, nenphews and nieces about $1,200; a strip of land 33x80 feet to Mrs. Ella F. McGrew; the residue of his estate, real and personal, to his brother Reuben French, of Cleveland, Ohio, in trust for the payment of debts, the remainder to be distributed among the relatives of said decedent at the discretion of his brother Reuben, who is nominated as executor of the estate. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION; William D. French, 15 Apr 1827 - 23 Sep 1901, married Mary E. (Ewart French, 06 Dec 1828 - 30 Sep 1899. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. There is also a "Babies" headstone on the same plot with William and Mary.
