DANIEL M. GALE, 06 Jun 1823 - 11 Sep 1887

   DIED at his home in Jackson township, Sunday, Sept. 11, 1887, Daniel M. 
Gale, aged 64 years, 2 months and 5 days.
   Deceased was born in Worthington, Ohio, and in 1835 went to Lima, 
LaGrange county, Ind., to live with his uncle, Thomas Gale.  In the spring 
of 1836, he came, with his uncle, to reside in Steuben county, hence was 
one among the very first settlers of Angola, and drove a team to haul 
lumber from Lima to build the second frame house erected in Angola.  For 
over fifty years he has resided continuously in the county, living an 
honest, unpretentious life and died respected by all.  Funeral services 
were held at the family residence on Tuesday, Sep. 13, conducted by Rev. 
F. P. Arthur.  Burial at Flint cemetery.

   Daniel M. Gale, 06 Jul 1823 - 11 Sep 1887, on 28 Apr 1845, married 
Rachel (Russell) Gale, 03 Oct 1824/25 - 06 Jun 1902, daughter of John 
Russell, 1780/90 - 1849, and Rachel Russell, born about 1786 - no date of 
death.  Rachel's father, John Russell, was the first white settler of 
Clear Lake Township.  Daniel's obituary states that he is buried at Flint 
Cemetery but the Cemetery books state he and Rachel are buried at Circle 
Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana.  According to 
www.familysearch.org, Rachel's parents are buried at Clear Lake Township, 
Steuben County, Indiana, Lake Ann Cemetery.  Nothing listed in the 
Cemetery books.

CHILDREN:

   Richard R. Gale, 1846 -1922, on 26 Nov 1873, married Elizabeth 
(Rakestraw) Gale, 1851 - 1907, daughter of Caleb and Elezan (_____) 
Rakestraw.  Richard and Elizabeth are buried at Circle  Hill Cemetery.
   Jay J. Gale, 1847 - (died after 1902), on 17 Aug 1871, married Caroline 
(Killinger) Gale, 1850 - 11 Nov 1902, daughter of Godttlieb Killinger, 25 
Mar 1818 - 05 Sep 1876, and Catharine (Newbauer) Killinger, 08 Sep 1820 - 
05 Aug 1875.  Caroline is buried on her parent's lot at Circle Hill 
Cemetery.  No information on Jay's burial place.
   Mary Adaline (Gale) Rhoades, 20 Dec 1849 - 10 Feb 1904, on 15 Aug 1879, 
married Samuel Benjamin Rhoades, 27 Jul 1850 - 16 Nov 1933.  They are 
buried in Los Angeles, California.
   Orsavella/Vella Caroline (Gale) Lewis, 1851 - 1914, on 01 Sep 1870, 
married Newell Pomeroy Lewis, 23 Jan 1840 - 19 Aug 1911, son of Harvey 
Lewis, 08 Oct 1813 - 07 Sep 1890, and Elizabeth (Bassett) Lewis, 22 Apr 
1813 - 21 Jan 1887.  Orsavella and Newell are buried at Circle Hill 
Cemetery.  Harvey and Elizabeth are buried at Block Cemetery, Steuben 
County, Indiana.
   Jane/Jennie A. (Gale) Killinger, 1853 - alive in 1902, on 22 Oct 1885, 
married Franklin Killinger, burial place unknown.
   Ella Gale, 1855 - alive in 1902, burial place unknown.
   Charles/Charley Gale, 20 Jan 1863 - 07 Jan 1864, buried at Circle Hill 
Cemetery.
