STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, FEB. 5, 1896, pg.8,col.4 DIED at his home in Xenia, Kansas, Jan. 17, 1896, Chauncey Gilbert, aged 75 years. He was born at Rochester, New York, in 1821, afterward lived in Lorain country, Ohio, until about 1840, when with his father's family he removed to Steuben county, where he lived until 1862, when he decided to move to Kansas, becoming one of the first settlers and enduring all the hardships and privations of a new country. His wife, Nancy C., died in March 1893. Uncle Chauncey, as he was always called in his latter years, was loved and respected by all who knew him, and was followed to his last resting place by a large concourse of people.
