Steuben-Republican 16 March 1904 P.1 Joseph A. Gilbert was born in Adams County, Pennsylvania August 2, 1825 and died at his home in Otsego Township March 4, 1904, age 78 years 7 months and 2 days. He moved with his parents to Portage County, Ohio, when quite young, was married to Martha Ann Forder on February 28, 1850, and moved to Steuben County shortly after. To this union were born six children; three dying in infancy and his wife dying January 26,1859. He was again united in marriage to Emily A. Case, February 17, 1861. To this union were born three children, his second wife dying April 12, 1884. He leaves to grieve over his departure six children, twenty-three grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends, with his brothers in the Masonic order at Angola, of which he has been a member for 38 years. A believer, and in his late sickness confessed his faith in the Christ and hoped to be with him in the great eternity. A great number of fellow Masons took part in their usual burial services. A host of relatives and friends gathered at the old homestead to pay a tribute of the respect to sturdy citizenship. Elder Frank D.
