Steuben-Republican 30 June 1880 PORTER GLEASON, ESQ. In Jackson township, June 25, 1880, of heart disease, Porter Gleason, Esq., aged 65 years. Thus another early settler has gone to rest. Porter Gleason was born in Onondagua County, New York, in 1815. At an early age he removed with his parents to Marion County, Ohio. At the age of 24, he married to Miss Amy Sams, and a year later, removed to Steuben County, settling in Jackson Township, on the farm now owned by V. Little, and which he cleared. Twelve years ago he puchased the farm on which he resided at the time of his death. The deceased was a father of nine children, seven of whom survive him and are all respected citizens of Steuben County. He held the office of Justice of the Peace for twenty consecutive years, and was a consistent member of the Christian Church 44 years. The funeral services occurred at 1 o'clock Sunday, and not withstanding the inclement weather, were largely attended. His sorrowing companion and children have the heartfelt sympathy of a large circle of friends. Submitted by J.A. Childers jeanannchilders@gmail.com
