STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 1905, p.1, c.6 CATHERINE ELIZABETH (BIGLER) KEMMERLING GOCHENAUR, 27 Dec 1834 - 27 Jan 1905 Catherine Elizabeth Bigler was born in Ashland county, Ohio, Dec. 27, 1834, and died at the home of her son in Scott township, Steuben county, Ind., Jan. 27, 1905, aged 71 years and 1 month. She was married to Wm. Kemmerling, June 24, 1855, and to them was born one son. After a couple of years from her marriage she was left a widow by her husband's death. She was again married to Joseph Gochenaur, Oct. 16, 1869 (note: 19 Oct 1860 per marriage license), and he departed this life March 19, 1898. Since then she has made her home with her son, Albert Kemmerling. To this union were born seven children, two dying in infancy. Those remaining are Mrs. Frances Beaty and Mrs. Della Smith of Auburn, Ind., Harry and Orville Gochenaur and Mrs. Ella Sunday of this place. There are fourteen grandchildren, one sister and five brothers left to mourn their loss. She was a kind and loving mother and a neighbor whom all knew to be ever ready to lend a helping hand in time of need. She had been a great sufferer for years, enduring her suffering without a murmur. She was a faithful member of the Lutheran church always believing in the Christ and ready to obey his call. Zion Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana, and William is buried at Old Angola Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. CHILD OF THE 1ST MARRIAGE: Albert Kemmerling, 30 May 1856 - 12 Jun 1939, married Nettie (Roose) Kemmerling, 09 Feb 1859 - 29 Aug 1939. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Nettie may be the daughter of Daniel Roose, 18 Dec 1835 - 17 Aug 1885, and Frances (Meese) Roose, 02 Nov 1838 - 05 Oct 1915 who were married 13 Apr 1856. Place of burial unknown. SECOND MARRIAGE: On 19 1860, Catherine married Joseph Gochenaur, 17 Oct 1829 - 19 Mar 1898. He is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Catherine was Joseph's 2nd wife. CHILDREN OF CATHERINE'S SECOND MARRIAGE: Frances Mae (Gochenaur) Beatty Showalter, 20 Aug 1862 - 04 Feb 1932, on 17 Jul 1886, married Abraham Beatty who died 24 Nov 1911. Her 2nd husband was Jacob Showalter, 01 May 1848 - 07 Aug 1934. Frances and Jacob are buried at Jordan Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Abraham's burial place is unknown. Jacob's parents were Michael A. Showalter, 03 Oct 1805 - 10 Oct 1891 and Mary (Weltmer) Showalter who died 17 Jan 1890, aged 76 years, 4 months and 5 days. They are buried at Jordan Cemetery. Dora Gochenaur, 06 Jan 1863 - 09 Mar 1863. She is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery. William Gochenaur, 20 Sep 1864 - 24 Nov 1864. He is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery. Della (Gochenaur) Smith, 1861, no date of death, on 12 Aug 1883, married Joseph Bentley Smith, 1857 - 1915. Their burial place is unknown. Harry Gochenaur, born in 1869, no date of death or place of burial. Orville Gochenaur, 1874 - 1943, married Mary Alice (___) Gochenaur who died 10 Oct 1968. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. Ella A. (Gochenaur) Sunday, born in 1877, on 01 Jan 1896, married Frank D. Sunday. Their burial place is unknown. JOSEPH'S FIRST MARRIAGE: On 13 Oct 1852, married Sarah Ann (Smith) Gochenaur, 1834 - 06 Oct 1859. She is buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery. CHILD OF JOSEPH'S FIRST MARRIAGE: Maria Angeline (Gochenaur) Showalter, 09 Mar 1855 - 25 Mar 1909. In 1877 she became the 1st wife of Jacob Showalter, 01 May 1848 - 07 Aug 1934.
