THE HAMILTON NEWS, STEUBEN COUNTY, INDIANA, OCTOBER 6, 1944, p. 1, c. 5 GEORGE EDGAR HAMMOND, 23 Apr 1857 - 03 Oct 1944 GEORGE E. HAMMOND DIED TUESDAY NIGHT George E. Hammond passed away at his home in the west part of town at 11:55 Tuesday night. Mr. Hammond fell on his porch a week ago and has been bedfast since then. Mr. Hammond was born on April 23, 1857, being 87 years of age at the time of his death. He came to Hamilton in 1916 and has been a resident here since that time. Funeral services will be held at the Church of Christ this (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 conducted by A. P. Benjamin, the pastor of the church. Burial in Hamilton cemetery. Surviving are four children, Timothy Hammond of Fort Wayne; Roy Hammond of Ashley; Mrs. Mildred Leason and Mrs. Pearl Overholt of Hamilton; thirteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
