Obituary of John J. Harman - Steuben Republican, August 8, 1906, Page 1, Column 7

John J. Harman was born in Putnam county, Ohio, October 19, 1846. He came to Steuben county,
Indiana, October 19, 1865 with his mother and two sisters, his father having died in 1862,
leaving him the care of the family.
January 17, 1869, he was united in marriage to Louisa J. Day. He leaves three sons, one
daughter, twelve grandchildren, three sisters, and one brother. Father, mother, brother, and two
sisters preceded him to the unknown. Of Mr. Harman's quiet, humble and uneventful life several
traits of character stand out brightly and prominently; sterling honesty in all his relations with
his fellow men; in all things done he strove to do his best. No man can do more. He will long
be mourned and greatly missed by many friends.
He had an unwavering faith in the providence of God and died believing steadfastly in a
blessed immortality. On the morning of August 5, 1906, he fell asleep, aged 59 years, 8 months,
and 15 days. Funeral services were held at South Scott church Sunday at 2:30 PM, conducted by
Elder Vernon Stauffer.
