STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 8, 1899, page 1 column 6 ELIZABETH CULBERTSON HEATH, 28 Jan 1831 - 22 Feb 1899 Elizabeth Culbertson was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, Jan. 28, 1831. Her parents moved to Ashland county in 1833, where she married Horace Heath, March 17, 1863, while he was home on furlough. At the close of the war they came west, residing the past twenty-six years continuous in Steuben county. To them were born three children, one, Olive B., who died in infancy, Addie E. and George A., who with the father mourn the departure of a patient, loving wife and mother. She also leaves one brother, Elias, of Ashland county, Ohio, and three sisters, Mrs. Sarah A. Parker, of Kansas, Mrs. Harriet Johnson, of Wauseon, Ohio, and Mrs. Mary McGinn, of Williams county, who was present to help care for her in her last days. She united with the M. E. church of Otsego township in 1874, and afterward took membership with the York M. E. church in 1886. He health never permitted her to take an active part in church work, but her faithfulness to the cause, her allegiance to the Father, her loyalty to the Savior, was a sermon to those who knew her in her home life, a comfort to her when she "walked through the valley of the shadow of death." The last ten years of her life she was a great sufferer from cancer, which caused her death Feb. 22, 1899, at her home in York, aged 68 years and 25 days. She accepted her intense suffering with remarkable patience and fortitude, anxious to live, yet ready to die. While as she said, "leaning on the arm of Jesus" she again and again commended her soul to her Creator, calmly making requests for her burial. The funeral was held Friday, Feb. 24th, at Powers' church. Elder C. S. Medbury talked with appropriate fitness upon the "Ministry of Suffering," reading from 1st Peter, 4; from the 12th verse to the close, also 1st Peter 1: 3-9 inclusive. The sermon, the songs, the consistent christian life of the loved one "gone on before" are an inspiration to those bereft of her loving ministration to look forward to a glad reunion "over the river."
