WILLIAM A. HELME, 12 Aug 1837 - 06 Mar 1877

                 Death of "Al" Helme

   Mr. Wm. A. Helme, more familiarly known as "Al" Helme, of 
the village of Orland, died on the 6th instant-one week ago 
yesterday-and was buried on the Thursday following, from the 
Baptist church in that village, Rev. E. Hall, pastor of the 
M. E. church, officiated.  The burial services were conducted 
under the auspices of the F. & A. Masonic fraternity.  The 
day was very stormy, nevertheless there was a fair attendance 
at the funeral.
   We are indebted to Rev. Hall for some facts in relation to 
the dedeased.  "He was born in Ohio, August 12th, 1837, in 
which State he lived until about sixteen years ago, when he 
came to Orland.  He was a good mechanic-a tinsmith by trade-
and for a number of years worked at his in trade in that 
place.  He was also, for a number of years in trade as a 
hardware dealer.  For a number of years prior to his death he 
was a sufferer from the fell and fatal disease, consumption, 
which took him off.  For a few weeks prior to his death he 
was unable to hope in a pardoning-Savior and spoke of his 
comfort in believing in Christ and how happy and different he 
felt compared with former days.  This he expressed to his 
friends and desired them to meet him in Heaven."

   The funeral services of Mr. Wm. A. Helme, were held at the 
Baptist church last Thursday.  The Angola band was present 
and the burial was performed with Masonic rites.
 
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

   William A. Helme, 12 Aug 1837 - 06 Mar 1877, was buried at 
Memorial Grove Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana, next to his 
mother, Elizabeth (______) Helme Main, 19 Dec 1818 - 31 Jul 
1874.  William's father was W. C. Helme, burial place 
unknown.  Elizabeth married her 2nd husband, Jared Main, on 
24 Jun 1861 in Medina, Ohio.  His burial place unknown.
   
BROTHERS:
   Almanza Helme, 1839 - 1900, in 1865 in Edgerton, Williams 
County, Ohio, married Ellen (Fuller) Helme, 1847 - 1920.  
They are buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Steuben 
County, Indiana.
   John Wesley Helme, 24 Sep 1843 - 20 Sep 1907, on 11 Jun 
1865 in Medina, Ohio, married his 1st wife, Martha C. 
(Spooner) Helme, 04 Nov 1844 - 23 May 1898.  They are buried 
at Greenlawn Cemetery.  On 27 May 1899, he married his 2nd 
wife, Alice E, (Wiles) Hobson, 1855 - 1921.  She is buried at 
Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana.
