Clark, daughter of Daniel and Julia Ann Clark, was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, April 22, 1839; died Feb. 2, 1917, at the home of her son-in-law, A. W. Friday, in Fremont, Ind., aged 77 years, nine months and 10 days. She accepted Christ as her Savior when 19 years old and became a member of the Christian church and has ever since stood for truth and right. She was united in marriage with Jacob Hephner, Aug. 19, 1858, at New Lisbon, Ohio. To this union were born four children, Lawrence, Emmet, Melissa and Elmer. Lawrence died when two years old. Melissa died in 1906 and the father died March 29, 1898. Emmet, of Quincy, and Elmer, of Fremont, still survive. After the death of her daughter, Mrs. Hephner remained in Mr. Friday's home, caring for the two grandchildren, Lelah and Gale, who feel truly that they have again lost a mother. She leaves to mourn, two sons, four brothers, four sisters, four grandchildren and a large circle of friends. Funeral services were held at the home of A. W. Friday, Feb. 5th, 1917. Sermon by Abner F. Elzey, of Ossian, Ind. She was laid to rest beside her daughter in the Old Cemetery, Fremont, Ind. Jacob's burial place unknown. The 1880 United States Census lists Jacob, Sarah, Emmet, Melissa and Elmer living in Camden, Hillsdale County, Michigan, Family History Library Film #1254580. NA Film #T9-0580. Page No. 80C. Daughter, Melissa (Hephner) Friday, 1863 - 1906, married Aaron W. Friday, 1861 - 1934. They are buried at Fremont Cemetery. The grandson she cared for was Gale M. D. Friday, 01 Mar 1896 - 14 Nov 1918, Lieutenant, 27th M.C. Bn., died at Camp Sheridan, Alabama. He is buried at Fremont Cemetery. "Cemeteries of Steuben County, Indiana, 1990."
