STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JULY 28, 1897, page 4, column 4 JAMES HILTON, 08 Aug 1837 - 20 Jul 1897 DIED at his home in Jackson township, Steuben county, Indiana, July 20, 1897, James Hilton, aged 59 years, 11 months and 12 days. Deceased was born in Morrow county, Ohio, and Sept. 9, 1858, was united in marriage with Lydia Jane Smith, and to the union were born eight children, three sons and five daughters, who with the mother, survive him. Mr. Hilton had been a resident of Steuben county for many years. He was a man of unusual strength, but the reaper, whose name is death, did not spare him. He will be missed by his family and many friends. Funeral services were conducted by Elder Medbury, of Angola. They are buried at South Scott Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. CHILDREN: Oleric Jackson Hilton. 16 Mar 1859 - 30 Nov 1928, married 1st, Eliza J. (Zimmer) Hilton, 20 Jul 1859 - 20 Sep 1913, daughter of Adam and Mariah (Williams) Zimmer. Oleric and Eliza are buried at South Scott Cemetery. He married 2nd, Clarissa Salena (Bennett) Dygert Hilton, 1854 - 1921, widow of Theodore Abraham Dygert. She was the daughter of William Ward and Eliza (Stevens) Bennett. Clarissa is buried at Dygert Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Dora A. (Hilton) Kissinger, 1861 - 1932, on 25 Dec 1883, married Charles J. Kissinger, 1858 - 1941. They are buried at South Scott Cemetery. Mary L. (Hilton), 1866 - 1940, married William C. German, 30 Aug 1863 - 1928, son of Edward German, 17 Oct 1826 - 22 Jun 1894, and Rebecca (Schweitzer/Switzer) German, 05 Apr 1833 - 01 Apr 1891.
