S. Wells, Angola, Ind., Nov. 17, 1903, aged 74 years, 11 months and 10 days. When a child of five years, deceased moved with her parents from New York to Oakland county, Mich., where her father died four years later. In 1841, she came with her mother and stepfather to Indiana, locating near Orland, Steuben county. Here her mother died. When a girl of 13 years, deceased united with the Methodist church and held membership with that people for a number of years. August 13, 1845, she was married to Morris Howard. The home was established on a farm 6 miles west of Angola, and to this union ten children were born, 6 daughters and four sons. Five of the daughters and 3 of the sons together with 10 grandchildren and five great- grandchildren survive. Mrs. Howard's identification with the Christian church covers a period of about 45 years. She was loyal to her God through long years of infirmity. She was true to the interests of the Angola congregation with which she held membership so many years. Though sadly crippled she continued coming to the place of worship until it was wholly impossible. Our people's life will be the richest for her abiding faithfulness and all her loved ones now look away to the future confidently because the life we hold in sacred memory was linked with God. A pioneer in our county's settlement, a pioneer in realm of Gospel truth, a true woman of God in all life's sacred relationships, she rests from her labors and her works do follow her.
