STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 12, 1901, page 4, column 5 EDEXEY L. (WOOLCOTT) JOHNSON, 18 Dec 1809 - 28 May 1901 Edexey L. Woolcott was born in Cazenovia, Madison county, N. Y., Dec. 18, 1809, and was united in marriage with George W. Johnson, Feb. 6, 1829, and in the spring of 1838 they came to Steuben county, and settled on land that had been entered by her husband two years before, and where she died May 28, 1901, aged 91 years, 5 months and 10 days. She had resided 63 years on the farm. Eight children were born to this union, three sons and five daughters, five of whom with the husband preceded the deceased to the great unknown. Two daughters, Mrs. Sophia Foster and Mrs. Harriet Burk, and one son, Riley Johnson, besides a number of grandchildren and numerous other friends are left to mourn the loss of a loving mother and friend. Aunt Dexy, as she was called, was the last of the old settlers of York township who were adults when they came to this county. The funeral was held at the Whaley church, May 29, Rev. G. L. Mount officiating, and the remains were laid to rest in the Billingstown cemetery. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION : Edexey L. (Woolcott) Johnson, 18 Dec 1809 - 28 May 1901, married George W. Son: Riley Johnson, 1847 - 17 Jul 1924, married Barbara (Malone) Petty Johnson, 30 Dec 1852 - 21 Dec 1943, widow of Cornelius Petty. Other children: Daughters, Sophia Foster and Harriet Burk(e) survive; Joanna Johnson died at age 21; Andrew Johnson, deceased; George Johnson died in the Civil War; two other daughters are deceased.
