Son of Fred Jones
Steuben Republican 4 Oct 1862, P.3 clm.1

Sad Accident- Yesterday forenoon a son of Mr. Fred Jones living about two miles north east of
this place went into the outdoor cellar, near his father, when the planks broke and the mass of earth fell on him, killing him almost instantly.  He was 12 years old.  When we saw that child at the fair ground the day before the accident, little did we think that we should so soon be called upon to chronicle his death, but the ways of the Almighty are mysterious, and no one knows what minute is his last on earth, as “in the midst of life, we are in death”.  Let this be a warning to all, so as to be at all times prepared.
