STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1880, p.8, c.4 ZIBA JONES, 23 Sep 1793 - 13 Nov 1880 JONES--In Scott township, Nov. 13, 1880, Ziba Jones, aged 87 years. The deceased was born in New Hampshire, in 1793. When a young man he removed to Ohio, being one of the first settlers in Licking county, that state. In 1848 he removed to this county, and settled on the place where he resided until his death. When Mr. Jones first came to Scott township there was no school house or church in which to hold religious services. With the aid of his neighbors he went to work and built a school house on his own place, where services have been held since that time. For more than seventy years Mr. Jones was a member of the M. E. church, having united with that organization when but fifteen. The deceased was the father of J. W. Jones, Mrs. Adam Metzgar, Mrs. Alex McClue, Mrs. Nelson Hutchins and Mrs. Matilda Jagger, all of this county. With the last named daughter he was living at the time of his death. They are buried at Jones Chapel, Steuben County, Indiana. Ziba was the son of Jacob and Sally (Cady) Jones. Flora was the daughter of Samuel and Annis (Buttolph) Everett. Flora was born in Torrington, Litchfield County, Conn. CHILDREN: Sarah Lamira (Jones) Jagger, 22 Jan 1820 - 22 Jul 1910, married 1st, William H. Jagger, 1812 - 13 Oct 1865. They are buried at Jones Chapel, Steuben County, Indiana. She married 2nd, Adam Metzgar, 26 Apr 1806 - 31 Aug 1881. He is buried at Old Angola Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana, with his 1st wife, Mary (Leist) Metzgar, 26 Apr 1797 - 02 Jun 1863. Samuel Everitt Jones, 09 Oct 1824 - 11 Feb 1871, on 21 Jan 1855, married Sally/Sarah L. (VanHorn) Jones, 1826 - 1891. They are buried at Jones Chapel. Sally/Sarah was the daughter of Cornelius VanHorn, 11 Nov 1795 - 01 Feb 1884, and his 1st wife, Eliza Jane (Phillips) VanHorn who died 09 Oct 1837, aged 32 years. They are buried at Jordan Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Phoebe (Jones) Hutchins, 02Jan 1827 - 04 Feb 1904, on 01 Dec 1850, became the 2nd wife of Nelson Hutchins, 16 Apr 1818 - 25 Oct 1896. His 1st wife was Maria (Adams) Huthins, 1822- 1844. They are buried at Jones Chapel. Maria was the daughter of Ezera Hutchins, 1792 - 1882, and Mahala (Sprague) Hutchins, 1789 - 1856. They are buried at Fremont Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Matilda A. (Jones) Jagger, 1828 - no date of death, on 15 Sep 1850, married James Lewis Jagger, 1828 - 1857. James is buried at Jones Chapel but Matilda is not listed in the cemetery book. Celma/Selma (Jones) McClue, 26 Apr 1832 - 19 Oct 1911, on 17 Jan 1858, married Alexander McClue, 17 Apr 1835 - 14 Oct 1910. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Flora Agnes (Jones) Green, 23 Jan 1835 - 19 Apr 1924, on 17 Jan 1858, married Marvin Green, 26 Sep 1833 - 13 May 1913. They are buried at Jordan Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Martha E. (Jones) Lamoreaux, 10 Aug 1837 - 06 Aug 1921, on 21 Feb 1857, married Henry C. Lamoreaux, 09 Oct 1833 - 29 Sep 1913. They are buried at Battle Creek, Michigan. John Wesley Jones, 21 Jan 1840 - 1924, on 09 Mar 1862, married Mary Jane (Lamoreaux) Jones, 20 Aug 1839 - 1934. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery.
