STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 1905, p.1, c.6 GEORGE KEESLAR, M.D., 22 Jun 1829 - 02 Feb 1905 Dr. George Keeslar was born June 22d, 1829, in Onondaga, New York, and departed this life at his home in Orland, Feb. 2, 1905, aged 75 years, 7 months and 8 days. He removed with his parents to Gilead, Mich., when eight years old where he spent his boyhood days. He was married to Miss Mary Green, October 24, 1848, Mrs. Keesler obeying the call of death April 28, 1898. For forty-eight years they had traveled life's variegated pathway together. One daughter, Mrs. Zaida Fluke, of Coldwater, Mich.; two sons, Peter Keesler, of Orland, and George Keesler of Stroh, remain of their broken home-circle, together with a brother, Wm. Keesler, of Orland, three half-brothers, Daniel Keeslar and C. W. Keesler, of Illinois, J. B. Keesler, of Burr Oak; two half-sisters, Mrs. Jennie Imel, of Coldwater, and Mrs. Mary Morrow, of Gtreenfield Mills, will also sadly miss his kind, warm-hearted hospitality with which he always welcomed them to his home. He did what he could to enhance their joys and mitigate their sorrows. After his marriage he studied medicine under Dr. Gorvis, a German physician of Auburn, and for many years he was a successful practitioner of DeKalb county. He removed from Auburn to Orland, and for many years was one of Steuben county's leading physicians, until failing health caused him to give up a large share of his practice. Night or day, through heat and cold, storm and sunshine he went to relieve suffering humanity. Today in the hearts of scores of people live sacred memories of his untiring and skillful efforts during times of sickness. Dr. Keesler believed firmly in the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man. He talked calmly and intellectually about entering the new life. When the death angel beckoned him to come, he willingly obeyed: "not like the quarry slave scourged to his dungeon, but like one sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust, wrap the draperies of his couch about him and lie down to pleasant dreams." Dr. Keeslar was a member of Star Lodge No. 225 and Chapter No. 100 of Orland, Knights Templar, of Kendallville. The floral offerings were profuse and beautiful. The funeral was in charge of the Masonic fraternity with interment at Green Lawn cemetery. (Picture included with obituary) ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: NOTE: The spelling of the last name is confusing. The obituary varies with Keesler and Keeslar as do the records in www.familysearch.org. The cemetery book lists Keeslar so I am using Keeslar.
