STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 1903, page 1, column 5 WILLIAM KENT, 05 Ded 1833 - 01 Apr 1903 William Kent was born in New York, Dec. 5, 1833, and died at his home near Metz, Steuben county, Indiana, April 1, 1903, aged 69 years, 3 months and 25 days. In 1854, he was united in marriage to Constant McGrew, who died in 1874. To this union were born six children, three boys and three girls, all of whom survive him, Alfred Kent, of Michigan; Charles Kent, of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; Emma, wife of Rev. W. H. Bodine, of Michigan; Elizabeth, wife of John Smith, near Metz, William F. Kent, of Michigan, and Jennie, wife of J. W. Hauenstine, of Ft. Wayne. In 1875, he was again united in marriage with Nancy Good, who still survives him. They lived fourteen years on the old homestead in Williams county, Ohio, and from there they moved to York, near Metz, Ind., where they resided until his death. Besides these relatives, he leaves 26 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, a brother and a host of friends to mourn their loss. All his children were at his bedside during his suffering and death. In the community where he lived so long, he was loved and respected for his true, upright, christian life, and for his patience and cheerfulness through extreme suffering and constancy as a friend. He was hopefully, peacefully and cheerfully looking upward to the higher home above in the beautiful City of God. He married 2nd, Nancy (Good) Kent in 1875. Her name and dates have been purposefully destroyed on the tombstone. All three are buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Only one child designated as a child of William and Constant, Elizabeth (Kent) Smith, 1863/9 - 1940, married John W. Smith, 1856 - 1919. They are buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
