STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 21, 1932, page 5, column 3 HELEN CORDELIA (STAYNER) KEWIN, 16 Sep 1900 - 17 Dec 1932 Mrs. Harry (Cordelia) Kewin, of Jackson, Mich., daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Stayner, of Orland, died in a sanitarium at Jackson, Mich., Saturday evening. Hers was the fifth death of children of Mr. and Mrs. Stayner during the past few years. She is survived by two daughters and a son, besides two sisters and three brothers, and the father and mother. Deceased was a graduate of the Orland high school in the class of 1917, and afterwards taught in the Orland school. Private funeral services were held at the Stayner home. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Helen Cordelia (Stayner) Kewin, 16 Sep 1900 - 17 Dec 1932, was the daughter of James Oliver Stayner, 29 Oct 1862 - 09 Jan 1939, and Nellie Helen (Davis) Stayner, 11 May 1866 - 15 Apr 1938. Helen Cordelia is a TWIN of Floyd Oliver Stayner. Helen Cordelia became a patient in the new tuberculosis sanitarium the first year or so after it opened in Jackson, Michigan. She died after being there 13 months. On 23 May 1920, she married Harry Corlett Kewin, 08 May 1894 - 16 Sep 1937. He was born in the Isle of Man, England. An infant son, Jack Douglas Kewin, 17 Jan 1928 - 02 Apr 1929, preceded his parents in death. They are all buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. There are three living children as of February, 2003: Kathleen Elizabeth (Kewin) Joy Mona Carolyn (Kewin) Hilden-Beckwith George Ramsey Kewin SIBLINGS: Jennie Carroll (Stayner) Keyes, 20 Oct 1886 - 10 Oct 1926, on 19 Nov 1905, married Lorenzo D. Keyes. Jennie Carroll is buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Dale Davis Stayner, 22 Jan 1888 - 16 Oct 1918, on 02 Jan 1909, married Berneice (Weiss) Stayner. Dale is buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Emma Lucile (Stayner) Hedglin, 17 Apr 1889 - 24 Feb 1978, on 17 Apr 1906, married Henry Arthur Hedglin, 05 Jan 1883 - 04 Jan 1934. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Laura Ellen (Stayner) Blanning, 14 Dec 1890 - 1960, on 11 Feb 1912, married Rev. Ralph Blanning, May 1886 - 04 Jul 1932. They lived in Massachusetts. Perry Winn Stayner, 06 Mar 1892 - 04 Aug 1951, on 05 Nov 1912, married Emma (Arndt) Stayner. Bess Eliza Stayner, 07 Apr 1894 - 16 Apr 1928, buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Bliss Eugene Stayner Sr., 21 Oct 1895 - 17 Nov 1923, on 11 Feb 1919, married Irene M. (Scripture) Stayner, 09 Jan 1896 - 02 Apr 1916. They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Frank Alcott Stayner, 01 Aug 1897 - 12 Nov 1941, buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Floyd Oliver Stayner, 16 Sep 1900 - 15 Feb 1936, on 03 Jul 1922, married Lissie (Fair) Stayner Smith, 20 Aug 1902 - 16 May 1999. Floyd is buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery. Lissie is also buried there with her 2nd husband, Samuel "Dewey" Smith, 12 Aug 1901 - 30 Dec 1975. Floyd is a TWIN to Helen Cordelia. Other relatives: Helen Cordelia was the granddaughter of William Perry Stayner, 11 Feb 1829 - 08 Jan 1915, and Dolly Jane (Powers) Stayner, 02 Apr 1835 - 19 Feb 1925, the daughter of Stephen A. and Mary Ann (Campbell) Powers, part of the Powers caravan who were the first settlers in York Township. Helen Cordelia was the great granddaughter of John and Sarah (Huntsman) Stayner, the first permanent settlers in Steuben County, arriving May 16, 1831.
