Steuben-Republican 25 February 1920 (picture) Rosemond Hulwick Knight, daughter of John and Augusta Hulwick was born in Caraway County, Illinois January 27, 1847 and departed this life February 12, 1920, age 73 years and 15 days. Deceased came with her parents from Illinois to Otsego township, Steuben County, when very young and has ever since been a resident of this county, and for a number of years has lived in Pleasant Lake. She was united in marriage first to Alfred Bender of Otsego township in 1864. To this union one daughter Emma Bender Harpham was born, who departed this life 25 years ago. She was next married to Austin Knight, no children were born to this union, but they adopted Frankie Miller who has been a dutiful son in old age especially ministering to their every need. On January 8, 1920, Mr. Knight departed this life. The aged companion bereft of her husband, felt keenly her loss, and did not cease to mourn for him, and not being very strong in body, the shock of his going was too much for her and in just six weeks from the death of Mr. Knight she followed him in death. Mrs. Knight was always religious and while she did not belong to any church, yet she liked to have the minister call upon her in her home, and when her husband died, made the selection of the funeral text and it was the writers privilege to pray with her in the home. She was always known as a hard working woman and simplicity reigned in the home. By the people of this village and community she and her husband were highly spoken of because of their known integrety and thus in the going of both Mr. and Mrs. Knight Pleasant Lake loses its valued citizens. She leaves to mourn her departure besides her adopted son, Franke Miller, two brothers Ephriam and Wall Hulwick of Angola, besides many nieces and nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held in the U.B. Church of Pleasant Lake, the pastor Rev. F.B. Parker officiating. Submitted by J.A. Childers
