                        Another Old Settler Gone
Mr. Ezra Leland, of Jamestown, in this county, departed this life on the
1st day of march, 1877, at his residence in that township. He was buried on
the 24th and the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. L.P. Rose of Orland.

Mr. Leland was born May 29th 1801, in [Peru] Monroe county, Mass. He came
to this county and settled on farm where he died, one mile east of the
village of Jamestown, in April 1837. He toiled hard in clearing and fitting
up his home leading the simple life of a farmer, but was very highly
esteemed and respected. We are informed that he was a relative of the rev.
John Leland, a distinquished Baptist clergyman of Massachusetts, in the time
of the Adamses and Jackson.
He was also a relative of Gov. Aaron Leland, of Vermont, but he lived on his
own reputation not theirs.
