STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 4, 1904, page 1, column 6 BENJAMIN LININGER, 29 May 1837 - 30 Apr 1904 Benjamin Lininger was born in Stark county, Ohio, May 29, 1837, and died at his home in Pleasant Lake, Indiana, Saturday, April 30, 1904, aged 66 years, 11 months and 1 day. He was a son of Samuel and Catherine Lininger and is the last one of nine children to pass to the better world. May 22, 1874, he was married to Ellen Mitchell, to whom six children were born, Charles M., Cora, Howard E., Lottie L., Ray A., and Arlie M., all of whom survive him, except Cora, who died at the age of two years and six months. In 1861, he enlisted as a private in Company G., 42nd Reg't., Illinois Veteran Infantry and served until the latter part of 1865, when he was honorably discharged in Texas with the rank of Corporal which he received May 5, 1865. He was in many of the hardest battles of the Civil war, and during his four years service received three wounds. His lieutenant says he was one of his best soldiers, always ready for duty. Under the pastorate of Rev. A. H. McCloe he united with the Pleasant Lake United Brethren church and continued a faithful member until his death. Funeral service was held Sunday at Pleasant Lake U. B. church, Rev. John Ransburg officiating. Soldier comrades were present in a body in token of respect. They are buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana, where Ellen is buried as Ellen S. Snowberger. Daughter, Arlie M. (Lininger) Freed, 1887 - 10 Apr 19962, married Harold Freed, 1892 - 1942, son of William H. and Della (Sunday) Freed. Arlie and Harold are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Ellen Biantha on 30 Dec 1923, married 2nd, Robert H. Snowberger, 19 Dec 1845 - 1938 (his 3rd wife). He is buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery. He was the son of David and Evoline (Haughey) Snowberger. Robert's 1st wife was Nancy Marie (Lacey) Snowberger, 1845 - 21 Oct 1909. His 2nd wife was Mrs. Clara Baker Snowberger, 1857 - 1923.
