STEUBRN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 1899, page 1, column 6 & 7 SARAH REYNOLDS LONG, 10 Oct 1813 - 13 Mar 1899,(picture included in obit) The subject of this sketch was born near Shiloh, Richland county, Ohio, on the 10th day of October, 1813, and died at Alpine, in southern California, March 13, 1899. In the summer of 1836, she with her family removed from Richland county to Steuben county, where she lived until 1878, when with her youngest son James she removed to Michigan, and from there in 1882 to California where she has since resided with her two sons, Hugh D., James H. and her daughter, Mrs. Callie Albee, formerly of Pleasant Lake. Concerning the life of this gentle, saintly, devoted christian woman, but little can be said in the limited space of an obituary that could do adequate justice to so noble a character. Let it suffice to say that her whole life was a vivid illustration of loving obedience to the words of her Divine Master, "He that loseth his life for my sake shall find it." Sarah Long's eighty-five years of life was a daily and hourly losing of self in faithful service and self-sacrifice for the good of her children and friends-but who found it again-rich, full and beautiful, in the love and respect of all who ever knew her through a long and useful life. It was eminently fitting that the winter of her life, with all its weariness, pain and suffering should suddenly change to immortal spring time, in the full glory of March, the month of flowers in her California home, where valley, mesa and mountain are now clothed with brightness and beauty. Our mother is now an immortal flower, transplanted to the banks of the River of Life. The human flower that gave to us so much of brightness and the perfume of love, even amid the privations, trials and limitations of this earthly life, will reach its full fruition and glory in the life beyond the grave.
