STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 22, 1899, page 1, columns 6, 7 BENJAMIN McGREW, 30 Jan 1840 - 18 Mar 1899 DIED at his home in Metz, Steuben county, Indiana, Saturday, March 18, 1889 (should be 1899), Benjamin McGrew, aged 59 years, 1 month and 19 days. Deceased was born in Morrow Co., O., Jan. 30, 1840, and came to this county a good many years ago. During the civil war he was a sargeant in Co. A, 129th Ind. Vols. and participated with his regiment in all its marches and battles and was honorably discharged on August 29, 1865. He was a member of H. L. Townsend post until it disbanded, and by his request was buried with G. A. R. honors. He leaves a wife and three daughters to mourn the loss of husband and father.
