STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 31, 1901, page 4, column 2 LEONARD N. McLAIN, 11 Apr 1834 - 22 Oct 1901 L. N. McLain died on Tuesday of last week after a long sickness. Funeral was held in he M. E. church Thursday and was attended by a large number of people who assembled to pay their last respect to an old soldier. Mr. McLain was sixty-seven years old, and served his country from 1861 to 1865 in the 21st Indiana. Eight old comrades of his company attended his funeral. Comrades Pickles, of Brighton, and Riddle, of Noble county, were present. Mr. McLain was a kind father, a good neighbor and a good citizen. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Leonard N. McLain, 11 Apr 1834 - 22 Oct 1901, on 01 Sep 1867, married Mary M. (Fast) McLain, 16 Oct 1845 - 30 Jan 1921. Leonard was the son of John McLain, 25 Dec 1792 - 02 Sep 1855. The Cemetery book says he was 61 years, 9 months and 23 days which does not compute with the given birth date. It would be 09 Nov 1793. Correct one not known. His mother was Eunice (Nelson) McLain, 16 Feb 1803 - 11 Aug 1876. They are all buried at Trinity Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. CHILDREN: Eardley L. McLain, 26 Apr 1868 - 1925, married Phoeba A. (Miller) McLain, 1871 - 1931. They are buried at Trinity Cemetery. Ray McLain, 24 Feb 1884 - 1952, married Mary N. (_______) McLain, 1896 - no date of death. They are buried at Trinity Cemetery.
