STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10, 1904, page 1, column 6 EDITH M. (LYON) McNICKLE, 01 Aug 1869 - 21 Jul 1904 Edith M. Lyon, daughter of Charles E. and Martha H. Lyon, was born near Nevada Mills, in Millgrove township, Steuben county, Indiana, August 1, 1869, and died at her home in Fremont, Indiana, July 21, 1904, aged 34 years, 11 months and 20 days. In 1876 the family moved to a farm two miles southeast of Orland, which continued to be their home until the death of the mother in July, 1901. Edith attended the Orland school for several terms and graduated with the class of 1888. After graduating, she taught several terms in the district schools of the county. In 1885, she joined the Methodist Episcopal church at Orland of which her parents were already members. After the death of her father she made her home in the village of Orland for several years and was regarded with love and respect by a large circle of friends. On April 25, 1901, she was married to Wm. McNickle, of Ray, Ind., and lived at that place one and one half years, then moved to Fremont, where she died. She was a member of the M. E. church at Ray and also at Fremont. Her natural disposition was to be very affectionate, honorable, and loyal to friends and to what was right. Her religious life was at all times sincere, consistent and earnest in the discharge of her duty in the Sunday school, the League and the church. In every relation of her life, she was loving, kind and unselfish, and will be greatly missed. Her last illness was long and painful, lasting more than eleven weeks, but death found her prepared to go and she felt no fear. She leaves a husband, brother, three sisters, many near relatives and a large circle of loving friends to mourn for her, but what is their loss is her great gain. Funeral services were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Reichelderfer, from the Fremont Methodist Episcopal church on Sunday, July 24, 1904 at 10:30 a.m. and was very largely attended. The pall bearers were the cabinet officers of the Epworth League of which Mrs. McNickle was president. The church, the league and the Bay View reading circle of which Ms. McNickle was a member gave beautiful floral designs. Also the floral offerings by very many personal friends bore witness to the love they cherished for her. The members in W. J. Case's store, where Miss Florence Lyon is employed as telephone operator, sent a beautiful bouquet of carnations in sympathy for Miss Florence. Burial in Green Lawn cemetery.
