In Brookville 17 March Joseph Milnes, of disease of the heart, in the 27th
year of his age. The diseased, enlisted in the 44th Reg. of Indiana
Volunteers at its organization, served with his regiment in all of its severe
marches and battles when not confined in the hospital by severe sickness.
Enlisted in the Winter of 1864, was promoted to orderly Sergeant and held
that position when mustered out with the regiment in September 1865.
