Elder T.G. Moffet
Steuben Republican  7 Jun 1862, P.3 clm 1

Died - in Waterloo, on Thursday evening, Elder T. G. Moffet, of this place aged 53 years 8
months and 2 days.
Scarcely have we listened to the last sound of the tolling bell, when we are startled by the tidings
that another of our brave volunteers has fallen.  It is scarcely six months, when we bid our friend goodby. He was then in the full enjoyment of health and little did we think that we should never have an opportunity of taking him by the hand again.  He, although advanced in years, deemed it his duty to buckle on his armor, and go forth to do battle in defence of his country, and he therefore became a member of the 44th Regiment, and was in the battles of Donelson and Pettsburg, where he bore himself with great gallantry.  A few weeks ago he was discharged from the service, on account of ill health, where he started for home.  He got as far as Evansville, where he was taken very sick.  On learning his condition, his son-in-law, Dr. Rice, hurried to his side, but too late to render him much assistance, only to bring him as far as Waterloo, where the family were summoned, and he died surrounded by his wife and children, except one son who is in the army.  Mr. Moffit was a man beloved by all, and those that were immediately acquainted with him, knew him as a good christian.  He was kind, and in his death this community has lost a good citizen, the church, one of its brightest ornaments, the country a brave soldier, and the family a kind husband and father.  We deeply feel the loss his family has sustained, and trust that God that doeth all things well, will be their guide through this, their hour of mourning.
