KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARNEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF STEUBEN COUNTY, ANGOLA, INDIANA MARY ANN (MILNES) MOFFETT, 01 Sep 1836 - 06 Dec 1919 Mary Ann Milnes was the daughter of George and Eve Ann Milnes. She was the oldest of a family of nine children and was born near Philadelphia, Pa., Sept. 1, 1836. She passed away in Angola, Dec. 6, 1919, in her 83rd year. She came with her parents to Jamestown township, Steuben county, Indiana, when she was about seven years of age. She received her education in the schools of the county and became a successful teacher in the schools of Pleasant township. She was married to Thomas R. Moffett, Jan. 1, 1860. To them were born two children both of whom died in infancy. Her husband passed to the great beyond Sept. 22, 1913. Mrs. Moffett was a member of the Congregational church of Angola, transferring her membership from the Universalist church of Pleasant Lake. The church will ever remember her genuine loyalty and her gentleness and gracious manner will continue to bless them. She was a charter member, and the oldest member of the Rebekah lodge. Now she has gone only one charter member remains, Lawrence Gates. She was the oldest member and a charter member of the W. C. T. U. to which organization she was much attached and as earnestly devoted. After her husband's death she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Alphonso C. Wood, where she had comfortably and happily lived until a few weeks ago, when she removed to her old home. It was in this home that she resided 47 years ago and where she watched and rejoiced in the building of her new home across the street. In this old home she passed to the rest and reward of the faithful on Saturday noon, Dec. 6. She leaves one brother, Eugene Milnes, of Pentwater, Michigan; one sister, Mrs. Moses Kimsey, of Auburn, Indiana; her daughter, Mayme Wood; her grandson, Theodore Thomas Wood; seven nieces and two nephews. Mrs. Moffett will long be remembered by her many friends and acquaintances for her interest in temperance, her devout religious life and her love of the church, and may the preciousness of her quiet, gentle spirit be as a benediction upon us all.
