STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 20, 1903, page 1, column 6 ALEXANDER S. MOORE, 02 Feb 1827 - 14 May 1903 Alexander S. Moore was born in Summit county, Ohio, Feb. 2, 1827, and died at his home three miles northwest of Angola, Indiana, May 14, 1900 (should be 1903), aged 76 years, 3 months and 12 days. Fifty years ago last April, Mr. Moore and Anna Bell Ewart were united in marriage in the county in which he was born, and at once moved to Steuben county, Indiana, where they have since resided. To them were born two sons, Eward and Commodore, who with their wives, four grandchildren and the aged widow, survive him. A good Christian man has passed away; one who needed no instructions in right-doing, but from choice followed the Golden Rule. Eleven years he superintended our county's poor, and with credit to the county and himself. In the spring of 1863, he enlisted in the union cause and served to the close of the war. He was severely wounded in battle by a bursting shell, and never fully recovered. This with other complications caused his death. He was a member in good standing of the B. J. Crosswait Post G. A. R., but for several years was unable to attend. Thus has a kind good husband, father and neighbor gone to his reward. Funeral was held Sunday at 2 o'clock, in the Angola Methodist church, conducted by A. G. Neal, under auspices G. A. R. Six of his comrades tenderly bore his remains to the last resting place, in beautiful Circle Hill cemetery. (Picture included with obituary) ADDITONAL INFORMATION: Alexander S.
