STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 17, 1899, page 8, column 5 MARCUS FULTON MORSE, M.D., 14 Aug 1814 - 11 May 1899 DIED at his home in Angola, Ind., May 11, 1899, Dr. Marcus F. Morse, aged 84 years, 8 months and 27 days. In the death of Dr. Morse, another of Steuben county's earliest settlers has passed away. He was born in Cheshire, New Haven county, Conn., Aug. 14, 1814, and came to Steuben county in 1840, and for many years was actively engaged in the practice of medicine, driving and riding hither and thither over the rough and muddy roads to every part of the county. December 2, 1841, he was joined in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Gale, daughter of Judge Thomas Gale, one of the very first settlers in Angola. To the union were born seven children, three of whom survive him; Mrs. Isora Latson, of Angola, Mrs. R. T .McDonald, of Fort Wayne, Inc., and Dr. Ralph W. Morse, of Lansing, Mich., and all were present at the funeral. The wife and mother died in 1868, and in the fall of 1869, Mr. (Dr.) Morse was united in marriage to Mrs. Mariah Nyce, who survives him. Funeral services were held at the home on Saturday afternoon, Elder C. S. Medbury of the Christian church, officiating. Burial in Circle Hill cemetery. All the children are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana, per "Cemeteries of Steuben Co., Ind., 1990" by Audree Siebel Lewis, Vol. II, pages 1100, 1306, 1308, 1309.
