JONAS JAMES MOUNTZ, 18 Apr 1822 - 17 Feb 1903

   Jonas Mountz was born in Columbiana county, Ohio, April 18, 1822, and 
on October 8, 1846, was joined in marriage with Miss Magdalena Fetterhoff.  
To this union were born eleven children, nine of whom, five daughters and 
four sons, survive him.  In 1851 he moved to Steuben county, locating on 
the farm seven miles southwest of Angola where he died Feb. 17, 1903, at 
the ripe age of 80 years, 9 months and 29 days.  At the age of twelve 
years he was left without a mother, but through her christian teaching he 
grew to manhood believing in God and with a desire to obey and serve him.  
In 1866 he became a member of the United Brethren in Christ, and lived a 
faithful member and a willing worker until death.  Aside from his nine 
children, he leaves to mourn their loss, one sister, three brothers, 2 
grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.  Funeral services were held at 
Mt. Zion church, Saturday, Feb 21, conducted by his pastor, Rev. J. K. 
Coverstone.

1st wife, married Magdalena (Fetterhoff) Mountz, 17 Apr 1825 - 15 Mar 1901.  
Jonas and Magdalene are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steuben County, 
Indiana.

CHILDREN:

   Harriet (Mountz) Oberlin, 02 Jan 1850 - 1937, on 27 Apr 1871, married 
George Oberlin, 1847 - 1912.  They are buried at O-HUD Cemetery, Steuben 
County, Indiana.
   Fieta Mountz, 09 Apr 1852 - 10 Sep 1858, aged 6 years, 5 months and 2 
days.  Family records say she died 11 Sep 1858.  She is buried at Mt. Zion 
Cemetery.    
   Maryetta (Ella on marriage license) (Mountz) Mortorff, 10 Mar 1858 - 07 
Sep 1927, on 31 Dec 1874, married Edmon F. (Franklin on license) Mortorff, 
1853 - 1920.  They are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery.  Her 1st name is Etta 
in the Cemetery book.
   Jennie (Mountz) Ransburg, Oct 1861 - Feb 1959, on 25 Sep 1881, married 
Lewis Ransburg, 1859 - 1934.  They are buried at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 
Steuben county, Indiana.
   Lovina (Mountz) Ritter, 28 May 1865 - 26 May 1926, on 11 Sep 1881, 
married Levi Ritter, 1862 - 1948.  They are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

POSSIBLE CHILDREN:

   Jacob S. Mountz, 21 Nov 1853 - 04 Jan 1942, on 06 Jan 1876, married 
Emma L. (Ward) Mountz, 18 Jan 1858 - 09 Aug 1957, daughter of Ancil and 
Susan E. (Yockey) Ward.  Jacob and Emma are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
   Francis Henry Mountz, 06 Jul 1859 - 07 Dec 1911, on 03 Mar 1885, 
married Della (Smith) Mountz, 1863 - 1932, daughter of Amos and Elizabeth 
(Wolfgang) Smith.  Francis and Della are buried at Pleasant Lake Cemetery.
