STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, MARCH 9, 1904, page 1, column 5 ALANSON MUNDAY, 14 Jul 1846 - 18 Feb 1904 Alanson Mundy was born in Seneca County, Ohio, July 14, 1846, and died at his home near Fremont, Indiana, Feb. 18, 1904, aged 57 years, 7 months and 4 days. In the year 1852, he moved with his parents to Steuben county, Ind. He was married to Mary C. Trimble, September 24, 1865. To this union five children were born, Frank, who died in infancy; John A., and William E., who reside at Fremont, Ind.; Nettie E. Pinkerton of Valparaiso, Ind.; and Mertie P. who died at the age of 18. On January 17, 1862, Mr. Mundy, at the age of 15 years, enlisted in Co. K, 44th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He saw service at Fort Donaldson and Pittsburgh Landing, where he received injuries for which he was discharged from service. He reenlisted a second time on Feb. 15, 1865, in Co. F., 152nd Ind. Vol. Infantry, and served until the close of the war. After the war he took up his residence on a farm near Flint, Ind., and engaged in farming and working at the carpentry trade until the year 1881, when he moved to Montpelier, Ohio, where he resided 14 years and then came to Fremont, Ind., where he resided. He was a member of the Grand Army Post at Montpelier, Ohio, and of Steuben Lodge No. 231, I.O.O.F., at Fremont, Ind. He received the appointment as a rural mail carrier on route No. 2 at Fremont, and began his duties on May 1, 1903, acting in that capacity until he was taken sick on Dec. 19, last. Mr. Mundy was a citizen who will be greatly missed by a large number of friends at Fremont, and places where he has resided. He leaves to mourn his death, a wife, two sons, one daughter, a mother, two brothers, one sister, three grandchildren and many other relatives. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. F. A. Reichelderfer on Sunday morning February, 21, 1904, at 9:30 and interment at Flint cemetery. Members of the I.O.O.F. Lodge assisted in the service at the place of burial. Buried at Flint Cemetery. His 1st wife was Polly (Stevenson) Mundy who died in 1849 and was the mother of Alanson and his brother, Jaspar Mundy. IN 1850, Lewis married his 2nd wife, Mercy B. (King) Pierce who died 20 Jul 1863, (37y.5m.9d.), buried at Flint Cemetery. CHILDREN of the 2nd marriage: Otis E. Mundy, 1851 - 1914, on 16 Aug 1874, married Mary E. (King) Mundy. Otis is buried at Flint Cemetery. Mary's burial place unknown. George W. Mundy, died 29 Feb 186_, (3m.12d.), buried at Flint Cemetery. David Mundy, died 29 Feb 186_, (2y.4m.10d.), buried at Flint Cemetery. Julia (Mundy) Castner married Franklin Castner. They were in Kansas in 1904, no other information. ON 18 Oct 1863, Lewis married his 3rd wife, Mary (Doudt) Bolin Mundy, 1835 - 11 Apr 1909, buried at Flint Cemetery. Her 1st husband was Levi Bolin who died 27 Mar 1863. CHILDREN of the 3rd marriage: Lewis Mundy, 245 Nov 1864 - 28 Jun 1947, on 24 Dec 1887, married Amanda (Harpster) Mundy, 09 May 1864 - 15 Feb 1942. They are buried at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Hattie (Mundy) Parsell, 13 Jan 1867 - 26 Nov 1887, on 14 Nov 1885, married James H. Parsell, 14 Dec 1854 - 1936. They are buried at Block Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. James was the son of Dr. Aaron G. Parsell and Emily (Emerson) Parsell. Nellie (Mundy) Kruger, on 13 Feb 1894, married John L. Kruger.
