From the STEUBEN REPUBLICAN Arthur O'Keefe (O'Keeffe) Was born in Cork, Ireland, Dec.25,1832 and departed this life at Fairbury,NE 27 Nov 1912, aged 79 years,11 months and 2 days. He came to America when fourteen years old and remained a loyal son to the land of his adoption. He married Miss Maria Sanford, of Woodstock, Lenawee Co. MI. To this union were born seven sons and five daughters, of whom one son and two daughters, together with the wife, preceded him to the better world. In 1885 he was married to Miss Martha Hollis, of Steuben county. To them were born one daughter, who passed to eternal rest last May, and two sons, thus leaving to mourn their loss the wife, eight sons, three daughters and several granchildren. At the time of the nation's need of brave men, he enlisted in the Co.G, 6th Michigan, and served faithfully until the close of the war. He became a member of Kilpatrick Post of Fremont, but later transferred his membership to B.J.Cosswait Post at Angola. In his youth he was baptized in the Catholic church, and all through his life he aimed to exemplify its teachings. He had a strong faith in GOD, was of a cheerful disposition, and the optismistic spirit which made him a good and loyal soldier that he was, made him a loving father and a true worthy neighbor and friend. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, in Fairbury NE., and the remains were laid to rest in the cemetery (Sanford)at Woodstock,MI. Submitted By: ajsenth@msn.com
