STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 22, 1902, page 4, column 2 SARAH (HANES/HAINES) OUSTERHOUT, 13 Aug 1829 - 08 Jan 1902 Sarah Hanes Ousterhout was born in Lancaster county, Penn., Aug. 13, 1829. Died at her home in Jackson township, Jan. 8, 1902. Aged 72 years, 4 months and 25 days. She was united in marriage to John N. Ousterhout, May 27, 1854. To this union were born seven children, one of whom died in infancy, and six survive her death. She had nine brothers and sisters of which only two are living, John and William Hanes. She leaves one son, five daughters, two brothers and nine grandchildren to mourn their loss. Mrs. Ousterhout united with the Christian church at the age of 18 years and remained a faithful member until about 25 years ago when she united with the Presbyterian church of which she was a faithful member until death. She was a kind and affectionate mother, always devoted to her home and family and its welfare. She will long be missed by kind friends and neighbors. N. Ousterhout died at the family home on Tuesday morning, Jan. 7, after a long sickness. On account of the family being sick with the measles, the funeral was held at the late home of the deceased, Friday afternoon, Jan. 10. Burial in the Block church cemetery. She was the daughter of Thomas Haines and had two brothers, John and William Haines. Possibly Sarah was married before as Iva Wood (granddaughter) says Sarah married 1st at age 16. (Cemetery book). Sarah and John are buried at Block Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. Children: Viola (Ousterhout) Wood, 1855 - 1927, on 18 Sep 1881, married Adelbert Wood, 1854 - 1921. They are buried at Block Cemetery. Ralph Ousterhout, 1857 - 1922, buried at Block Cemetery. Cora E. (Ousterhout) Clay, 1860 - 1944, on 12 Jun 1889, married Lorin J. Clay, 1860 - 1929. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery, Angola, Steuben County, Indiana. Sarah V. (Ousterhout) DeLong, on 21 Feb 1884, married George L. DeLong, 1854 - 1929. George is buried at Flint Cemetery. Nothing listed for Sarah V. Travis Ousterhout, 05 Jan 1865 - 15 Mar 1865, aged 2 months and 10 days, buried at Flint Cemetery. Lillian M. (Ousterhout) Morrison, 1867 - 1934, on 08 Sep 1888, married William C. Morrison (his 1st wife), buried at Block Cemetery. Alta G. Ousterhout, 1869 - 1945, buried at Block Cemetery. STEP-CHILDREN from John's 1st marriage to Nancy (Hammond) Ousterhout, 07 Apr 1829 - May 1853. Mary (Ousterhout) Slick, on 05 Feb 1870, married John Slick. (license issued to Arlinthee Ousterhout and John Slick) Burial place unknown. Samuel E. Ousterhout, 1850 - 1936, on 07 Aug 1871, married Eliza Ann (Johnson) Ousterhout, 1856 - 1930.
