STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 9, 1903, page 1, column 4 LUCIA (THOMPSON) PARTRIDGE, 09 Jul 1822 - 03 Dec 1903 Mrs. Lucia Partridge was born in Connecticut, Ashtabula county, Ohio, July 9, 1822, and died at her home in Orland, Indiana, Dec. 3, 1903, aged 81 years, 4 months and 24 days. The deceased was the daughter of Appolis Thompson and wife, of Connecticut, Ohio, where she lived until married, in 1844, to Alvin Partridge. After their marriage, they lived for eleven years in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin, coming to Orland in 1855, where they lived until the death messenger called each one away. Mr. Partridge was the first to be called away, having died in the year 1891, in his 75th year. Both lived to a good old age. To this union were born four children. One died at the age of 6 years, and the other three, Mrs. E. L. VanSlyke of Tacoma, Wash., J. W. Partridge of Coldwater, Mich., and Mrs. L. A. Richards of Lake George, Colorado, and one sister, Mrs. Linkletter of Woodstock, Ill., survive her, and with numerous other relatives and friends mourn their loss. The funeral was held Saturday in the congregational church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. W. Long. Mr. and Mrs. Partridge united with the Congregational church soon after coming to Orland, and remained consistent christians until death. After the death of Mr. Partridge, the care of Mrs. Partridge was left to a grand-daughter, Miss Carrie VanSlyke, who was faithful to her charge and sacrificed her time with a willing and loving service. The love for and esteem in which the mother was held was testified to by the beautiful flowers and casket which the children and grandchildren furnished for the burial. May the worthy example of this noble woman be a living and perpetual influence for good in this community.
