KAY LASH COLLECTION, CARGEGIE PUBLIC LIBRARY OF STEUBEN COUNTY, ANGOLA, INDIANA. PUBLISHED IN THE STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, 12 APR 1911. ELLEN (JACKSON) PERFECT, 01 Mar 1835 - 04 Apr 1911] ELLEN PERFET, daughter of John L. and Hezdiah(sic) Jackson was born in New York state, March 1, 1835, and died at her home in Angola, Indiana, April 4, 1911, aged 76 years, 1 months and 3 days. In early childhood she came with her people to Steuben county, Indiana, and her life since was spent in the vicinity of Pleasant Lake and in Angola. June 20, 1858, she was married to Lucas R. Perfect. To them was born one son, James Perfect who died in 1901. Mr. Perfect died about thirty years ago, and Mrs. Perfect passed the remainder of her life in widowhood. March 13, 1885, she united with the Pleasant Lake Baptist church and since that time she has been a large factor in the upbuilding and support of the church. She was likewise a generous contributor to the missionary, benevolent and educational work of the denomination of her faith. She was especially generous to the cause of christian education, through gifts to Franklin College, at Franklin, Indiana, and Shurtliff college, at Upper Alton, Illinois. In all her benefactions, Mrs. Perfect was quiet and unassuming, and besides these larger interests many individuals have been helped through her generosity, the extent of which she alone knew. She was also a member of the W. C. T. U., and exerted a strong, though quiet influence in directing its work. Mrs. Perfect was a woman of beautiful character. She was quiet, patient, unassuming, peace-loving, yet withal a woman of strong convictions, dignified, and commanding the respect of all her acquaintances. To those who knew her intimately, she was an ideal of christian character, and though her intimate family had all passed away, she left a large circle of personal friends who feel a deep sense of bereavement in her sudden death. Funeral services were held in the late home in Angola on Thursday afternoon, conducted by her former pastor and close friend, Rev. S. L. Roberts, of Franklin, Indiana, assisted by Rev. J. E. Dame, of the Baptist church, Pleasant Lake, and Rev. John Humfreys, of Angola. Interment took place in Circle Hill cemetery Friday forenoon.
