Steuben-Republican December 1918 ANDREW JACKSON POCOCK, son of Levi and Barbara Pocock, was born in Tuscarawas county, Ohio, June 7, 1854. When he was four years old his parents moved to Sandusky county, Ohio, where his mother died February 15,1864. In 1865, his father brought the children to the state of Indiana. Two years they resided in LaGrange county, after which time they removed to the present family home. After completing his grade school educaton he attended High school at Orland during several terms and then attended the Normal Schools at Angola and Valparaiso. After completing his school work he taught his home school, also at Nevada Mills. In 1879 he was united in marriage to Alice A. Burlingame. To this union were born two sons, Clyde, who resides near his parental home and Ralph, of Elkhart, and three daughters, Edith Kuhl of Fort Wayne, Zena, who passed away at the age of two, and an infant daughter. The wife and mother passed away in 1891, leaving a saddened home, yet he struggled manfully and kept the family together. In 1896, he was united in marriage to Fannie Lehman, this union being blest with three daughters and three sons, namely, Bertha, Edna, Wava, Harold, Russell, and Robert. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1914 and took great interest in the church, only regretting that he had not decided for Christ sooner, that he might have done more good. Two years he has been in failing health. At times he improved so much that bright hopes led us to believe that he could stay with us and enjoy the home and church which he willingly helped to dedicate so recently. On the ninetheenth of December he did not feel well and was taken to the hospital at Fort Wayne the following day, where he underwent an operation for appendicitis. Loving hands and tender care were of no awail and he happily accepted the invitation "Come Home." He was a kind father and a good neighbor. Honesty was his great watch-word. Besides his wife and children, he leaves to mourn their loss two brothers, Edward and Daniel, of Orland, two sisters, Mrs. Frank Salisbury, of Angola, and Emma Pocock, of Toledo, Ohio, nine grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral was held from the Nevada Mills M.E. Church, Monday, December 23, 1918, at 2 p.m. J.K. Wyant officiating. Interment in the Jamestown Cemetery. Submitted by J.A. Childers
