Steuben-Republican June 1934 RUSSELL W. POCOCK, son of Andrew and Fannie Pocock was born in Millgrove township, Steuben County, Indiana, July 30, 1906, and departed this life Wednesday, June 20, 1934, at 11 o'clock p.m. at the age of 27 years, 10 months, 20 days. The first eight years of his school life were spent at the Turner school, after which he attended the Orland High School and graduated with honors in 1924. Russell took a keen interest in all his work, taking a very prominent part in literary activities. He was a great lover of good books, having a wonderful memory to retain what he read and expressing his thoughts to the enjoyment of those about him in every day life. When he was twelve years old, his father passed away, leaving the responsibility of the large farm to Russell and his twin brother, Harold. Through his untiring efforts and knowledge of agriculture and with his brother's help, they made a success of the farm and lightened the burden for their mother. He was never to busy to lend a helping hand to any who needed it and many times his willingness to do was greater than his physical strength. His motto was, " If anything is worth doing at all, it is worth doing well." He associated his name with the Methodist Church at Nevada Mills, attending the services as much as possible. Three years ago a sad accident befel Russell which later caused his untimely death. Throughout his suffering he was patient and thoughtful of those who cared for him. He leaves, for awhile, his devoted mother, his sister Edna, his twin brother Harold; his youngest brother, Robert, also two other sisters, Bertha Pierce and Wava Fair. His nurse, Cecil McKenzie, who was among those who cared for him so faithfully during his illness, and two half-brothers and a half-sister, Clyde and Ralph and Edith Kuhl, nephews and nieces and a host of friends, will greatly miss him. Funeral services were held at the home Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock, conducted by Rev. Lester L. C. Wisner and Rev. D.B. Nysewander, and Mrs. Orville Stevens sang beautifully in the service. Burial was in Jamestown Cemetery. **Note-- A long poem followed this obituary. Submitted by J.A. Childers
