Powers was born in Allen township, Alleghany county, New York, January 19, 1834, and departed this life at his old home and the home of his daughter, Mrs. R. E. Gundrum, June 18, 1911, aged 77 years, 4 months and 29 days. He was married to Nancy Jane Clark, Jan. 1, 1860. He was the fourth child and third son of Winn and Betsy(sic) Powers. At the age of four years he came to York township, then an unbroken wilderness, to brave the hardships of pioneer life.
