STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 25, 1888, page 5, column 4 LUCY R. (GILBERT) POWERS, 04 Jul 1829 - 18 Jan 1888 A Good Woman Gone Lucy R. Powers, who died in Angola, Wednesday, January 18, 1888, was born in Lorain county, Ohio, July 4, 1829. Her maiden name was Gilbert, and she was married to Calvin Powers, April 6, 1851, at Pleasant Lake, this county. From the time of their marriage they lived on the farm near Metz, until April, 1877, when they moved to Angola, where Mr. Powers died on January 6, 1878. Since that time Mrs. Powers has lived in Angola. She leaves to mourn her, a daughter, Mrs. H. H. Keep, of Pleasant Lake, and a son, Frank M. Powers, of Angola. Mrs. Powers was one of those women of whom it may be said that the world was better for her having lived in it. Kind, gentle and unassuming, she faithfully and willingly did what was given her to do in the world's work. She had been in poor health for many years, and for a year or so past had been a great sufferer, being most of the time confined to the house. During all her sickness, she was tenderly and devotedly cared for and nursed by her son Frank, who gave her all his time, eased her sufferings and cheered her declining days. The funeral services were conducted at the home in Angola, Friday, at 11:30 A. M., Rev. F. E. Knopf, pastor of the Congregational church officiating. The remains were laid at rest in the Pleasant Lake cemetery. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Lucy R.
