Powers, 69, of Indianapolis, died at 5:54 p.m. Monday in Winona Memorial Hospital, Indianapolis. He was a summer resident of Lake Gage. The son of Clark and Jean VanCleave Powers, he was born in Angola. A veteran of W.W.II, he was retired after 30 years as Director of Rehabilitation for the American Lung Association. He was founder of Respiratory Health Club at Winona Memorial Hospital. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Field Powers; a son, Stephen W. of Indianapolis; and a daughter, Susanne Byanski of Indianapolis. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Weicht Funeral Home, Angola, with calling there from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Circle Hill Cemetery. Stephen was the son of Clark Ferrier Powers, 11 Jun 1890 - 04 Feb 1920, and Jean (VanCleave) Powers, 21 Sep 1887 - 1965, daughter of Lindsey Thomas VanCleave and Rose (Walton) VanCleave. Rose died 28 June 1965 at the age of 102 years, no burial place listed. Clark and Jean are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. The Powers Family History notes that Stephen A. was six years old when his father died. He graduated from the Horace Mann High School of Gary, Indiana, in 1932 where he was president of the Senior Honor Society. He attended Wittenberg College, Springfield, Ohio, majoring in Psychology and Sociology. He graduated in June 1936. He was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi social fraternity there. Stephen's lineage goes back to the pioneers who were the first settlers in York Township. His grandparents were Stephen Arad Powers, 28 Dec 1851 - 01 Aug 1912, and Isadora/Dora (Ferrier) Powers, 27 Apr 1857 - 05 Aug 1938, daughter of William and Olive Marie (Thompson) Ferrier. Stphen and Isadora are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. His great-grandparents were Clark Powers, 12 Dec 1803 - 25 May 1859, and Hannah (Ketchum) Powers, 19 Aug 1813 - 09 Mar 1885, daughter of Stephen and Hannah (Sunderland) Ketchum. They were members of the Powers Caravan consisting of Clark and his family and his brothers and their families: Stephen A. and May Ann (Campbell) Powers. Winn and Betsey (Reeves) Powers. Calvin and Maria Emeline (Corey) Powers. Clark and Hannah are buried at Powers Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana. MARGARET (FIELD) POWERS SIBLINGS: Edgar W. Field, 14 Mar 1906 - 21 Jul 1971, and Ruth (Pappenbrock) Field, his 2nd wife. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery. Robert Williams Field, 05 Dec 1909 - 1971, married Annabelle (McCullough) Field, 28 Oct 1911, no date of death. They are buried at Circle Hill Cemetery.
