PURDY, D.D.S., 09 Nov 1890 - 16 Oct 1966 LONG-TIME STURGIS DENTIST, SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER DIES STURGIS, Mich. -Dr. Leo B. Purdy, 75, who was known as dean of Sturgis dentists when he retired in 1965 after 42 years of practice, died at 3:55 a.m. Sunday in Sturgis Memorial Hospital. He had been in failing health several months. His wife, Wilma, died last January. Dr. Purdy began practice here in 1923 after graduating from college. He also was a former member of the Sturgis board of Education, serving as its president for 25 years. In younger days he was active as a semi-professional baseball player. Surviving are a son, three daughters, a sister, six grandchildren and a great-grandchild. Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday at the First Methodist Church. Purdy, D.D.S., was born 09 Nov 1890 in Orland, Steuben County, Indiana, and died 16 Oct 1966 in Sturgis, St. Joseph County, Michigan. On 05 Sep 1912, he married Wilma E. (Case) Purdy, 08 Mar 1893 - Jan 1966. They are buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Steuben County, Indiana. Leo was the son of Howard Eugene Purdy, 01 Apr 1865 - 06 Jan 1959, and Lydia Ordelia (Stayner) Purdy, 28 Aug 1866 - 19 Nov 1941. They are buried in the same lot as Leo and Wilma. Wilma was the daughter of William J. Case, 1864 - 1954, and his 1st wife, Cora (Swain/Wilder) Case, 11 Jan 1871 - 16 Oct 1910/16. They are buried at Greenlawn Cemetery. Cora (Swain/Wilder) Case was the daughter of Silas Swain and Ruth (Ewers) Swain. Ruth Swain died of T. B. and Cora was adopted by George Kendrick Wilder and Harriet N. (Luce) Wilder. They are buried at Greenlawn Cemetery. No information on the children of Leo and Wilma. Leo had one sister, Bertice Elizabeth (Purdy) Brown, 18 Oct 1894 - 20 Mar 1975, who, on 15 May 1919, married Donald Carl Brown, 01 Jan 1891 - 02 Dec 1975. They are buried at Greenlawn Cemetery.
