Lydia Stayner Purdy from Steuben Republican, November 26, 1941, pg 2, cols. 5, 6, 7 LYDIA STAYNER PURDY Lydia Stayner Purdy, daughter of Perry and Jane Powers Stayner, was born on a farm in Jackson township, Steuben County of August 28, 1866, and departed this life on the same farm, November 19, 1941, aged 75 years, 2 months, 22 days. She attended grade school in Jackson Prairie and high school in Orland. After taking normal training at Tri-State college she taught in several schools of Jackson township. On October 20, 1886, she was united in marriage to Howard E. Purdy of Orland. To this union were born two children, Dr. Leo Purdy of Sturgis, Michigan, and Mrs. Bertice Brown, of Orland, who together with her devoted husband, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and other relatives mourn her death. She was a great lover of children, always taking time to help in their play. She was a kind friend to all who knew her. October 20 was Mr. and Mrs. Purdy's 55th wedding anniversary, but owing to her ill health they spent the day quietly together. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Mrs. Purdy was the daughter of William Perry Stayner who was born in Richland County, Ohio, 11 Feb 1829 and departed this life, 8 Jan 1915. Her mother was Dolly Jane (Powers) Stayner who was born, 02 Apr 1835, and died, 15 Jan 1925. Her only brother was James Oliver Stayner who was born, 29 Oct 1862, and died, 09 Jan 1939. These relatives are all buried at Jackson Prairie cemetery, Orland, Steuben County, Indiana. Dr. Leo B. Purdy was born, 9 Nov 1890, and died in 1966. On 05 Sep 1912, he married Wilma E. Case who was born, 08 Mar 1893, and also died in 1966. Bertice (Purdy) Brown was born, 18 Oct 1894, and died, 20 Mar, 1975. On 15 May 1919, she married Donald Carl Brown who was born, 01 Jan 1891, and died, 02 Dec 1975. The Purdys and Browns are all buried at Greenlawn cemetery, Orland, Steuben county, Indiana.
