JOSEPH REEVES, 1810 - 07 Dec 1877

               Another Old Settler Dead
   Mr. Joseph Reeves, formerly a resident and one of the 
earliest settlers of this county, died at his home in 
Columbia, Williams county, Ohio, last Friday, Dec. 7th, 1877, 
in the 68th year of his age. He was buried on Sunday.  Mr. 
Reeves was born and brought up in Victor, Ontario county, New 
York.  He came to this county and settled in Richland 
township, about a mile and a half east of Metz, in 1836.  He 
was well known in the eastern part or the county, and greatly 
esteemed and beloved by all his neighbors.  His funeral on 
Sunday was largely attended in attestation of the high 
respect his friends have for his memory.  Elder P. Sutton, of 
Butler, officiated at the funeral.

   Joseph Reeves, born in 1810 in Victor, Ontario County, NY, 
and died 07 Dec 1877 in Columbia, Williams County, OH.  He 
married Clarinda Woodworth, 07 May 1817 - 01 Apr 1896.

   They had at least one child, Mary J. (Reeves) Bates, born 
09 Oct 1847 in Steuben County, IN, and died 18 Mar 1927 in 
Climax, Kalamazoo County, MI.  On 21 Sep 1871 in Williams 
County, OH, she married Oscar Bates, born 13 Feb 1850 in 
Williams or Morrow County, OH, and died 03 Jan 1932 in 
Jackson or Scott, MI.  He is buried in Climax, Kalamazoo 
County, MI, probably beside his wife.
   Oscar Bates was the son of Eldridge Bates, born 20 Nov 
1826 in Morrow or Knox County, OH, died 17 Jan 1868 in Lime 
Ridge, Sauk County, WI, and Susan (Barr) Bates, born 13 Oct 
1832 in Morrow County, OH, died 30 Apr 1911 in Reedsburg, 
Sauk County, WI.  They are buried in Green Cemetery, Lime 
Ridge, WI.
   
CHILDREN OF MARY J. AND OSCAR BATES:
   Dudley Bates, born 19 Aug 1872 in York, IN.
   Asher Bates, born 06 Oct 1873 in Branch County, MI, and 
died 30 Dec 1942 in Jackson, Jackson County, MI.  On 01 Oct 
1902, he married Daisy (Tucker) Bates, born between 1864 and 
1885.  Asker is buried at Montgomery, Hillsdale County, MI.
   Olin R. Bates, M.D., born 26 Apr 1879 in Halls Corner, MI, 
and died 11 Aug 1928 in Climax, Kalamazoo County, MI.  On 19 
Apr 1904 he married his 1st wife, Florence N. "Flora" (Beals) 
Bates, born 03 Jan 1883 and died 31 Dec 1916 in Climax, 
Kalamazoo County, MI.  On 29 Nov 1917, he married his 2nd 
wife, Elsie (Boehmer) Bates, born 25 May 1887 and died in May 
1970 in Climax, Kalamazoo County, MI.
