STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15, 1891, page 5, column 5 HENRY B. RICKARD, 29 Jul 1826 - 22 Mar 1891 DIED at his home in Pleasant Lake, Ind., March 22, 1891, Henry B. Rickard, aged 64 years, 7 months and 24 days. Deceased was born in Putnam, Genesee Co., New York. In 1853 he was married to Miss Lydia Carpenter, who survives him. Three children were born to them, two of whom went before him to the other shore. In 1858 he moved with his family to Steuben county. Mr. Rickard was a true patriot, and when the cloud of war hung heavy over our country, and the State was calling for defenders he enlisted in 1863 in the 12th Indiana cavalry and served to the close of the war. It was in this service he contracted the disease that terminated his earthly career. All honor to the veterans of the sixties! For thirty-eight years he was a soldier of the cross eight years of the time being identified with the Pleasant Lake Baptist church. He was a great sufferer, yet his faith never wavered, always maintaining that he was ready to meet the Captain of his salvation. The funeral services were held March 23, Rev. J. P. Green officiating.
