ZIBA ROBERTS, 10 Aug 1838 - 17 Dec 1904

   Ziba Roberts was born in Jackson township, Steuben county, 
Indiana, August 10, 1838, and died on the farm where he was 
born, Dec. 17, 1904, aged 66 years, 4 months and 7 days.  He 
was united in marriage to Louisa Collins, Oct. 7, 1859, and 
to th4e union were born five children, two dying in infancy, 
and three, Truman E., Roy and Mrs. A. E. Elston, with the 
wife and mother survive him, and deeply feel the loss of a 
kind, loving and devoted husband and father.
   Mr. Roberts was one of a family of ten children and only 
two survive him, D. H. Roberts and the sister, Mrs. L. B. 
Taylor.  The busy life ended in the same home, surrounded by 
his entire family, in which they were all born and reared.  
This home and family and their comforts was the one and first 
pleasure in his life.  He entered into and enjoyed all 
harmless amusements, which tended to make home ties and 
affection the bond of family union.  Likewise he shunned 
everything dishonorable, and was a strong foe to intemperance 
in all that intemperance means.  He knew the reward of 
success only by his own tireless efforts.  He met the ups and 
downs in life with a determination to succeed.  That he did 
succeed, can best be judged by those who know him best in his 
home life and business dealings.  Mr. Roberts was a 
successful farmer and stock raiser, and was untiring in any 
effort which was for the betterment of the farm and farm 
life.  He was member of and a worker in the Orland Grange, 
where he will be greatly missed.  He lived to see his two 
sons well established on good farms of their own.  He worked 
to the end, having finished every little job in his farm 
work, expecting to spend he balance of this winter with his 
daughter in Angola.  Thus the book of life closes with its 
ever unfinished page.
   Funeral services were held at the home conduced by Rev. 
Long, of Orland, assisted by Elder Stauffer, of Angola.

(Collins) Roberts, 1839 - 1916.  They are buried at Jackson 
Prairie Cemetery, Steuben County, Indiana.  Ziba was the son 
of Daniel Roberts, 20 Aug 1790 - 13 Mar 1841, and Mary 
(Hibbard) Roberts, 03 Nov 1798 - 18 Oct 1857.  They are 
buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery.  His parents were married 
in Sturgis, St. Joseph County, (no state listed).  Louisa was 
the daughter of Truman and Frances H. (____) Collins.

   Truman E. Roberts, 07 Oct 1860 - 02 Oct 1937, on 07 Oct 
1888, married his 1st wife, Eva (Ireland) Roberts, 14 Feb 
1867 - 29 Sep 1916.  They are buried at Jackson Prairie 
Cemetery.  He married 2nd, Dora (Locey) Richner, 22 Aug 1859 
- 22 Aug 1942.  She is buried at Flint Cemetery.
   Edith Roberts (twin), 20 Jul 1863 - 20 Jul 1863, buried at 
Jackson Prairie Cemetery.
   Judith Roberts (twin), 20 Jul 1863 - 20 Jul 1863, buried 
at Jackosn Prairie Cemetery.
   Jennie A. (Roberts) Elston, 1865 - 1913, on 17 Mar 1885, 
married Alva E. Elston, 1863 - 1936.  They are buried at 
Jackson Prairie Cemetery.
   Roy/Leroy Roberts, 14 Feb 1878 - 15 Jun 1949, married Ina 
Della (Cleaveland, 2_ Dec 1882 - 03 Jul 1924.  They are 
buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery.

SIBLINGS:

   Daniel Hibbard Roberts, 16 Nov 1819 - 10 Jan 1906, married 
Clarissa Ann (Twichell) Roberts, 31 Oct 1827 - 24 Feb 1891, 
daughter of Jonas H. and Malinda (Scott) Twichell.  They are 
buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery.
   Nathan Roberts, 04 Sep 1823 - 30 Aug 1858, married 1st, 
Minerva (Bennett) Roberts who died 17 Jun 1855, age 22 years.  
He married 2nd, Lydia (Bennett) Roberts, no dates.  Nathan 
and Minerva are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery.  Lydia is 
not listed in the cemetery book.
   Erastus Roberts, 15 Jul 1830 - 03 May 1877, married Susan 
(Cross) Roberts on 10 May 1855, no other dates.  Erastus is 
buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery.  Susan is not listed in 
the cemetery book.
   John A. Roberts, 22 Apr 1833 - 12 Dec 1886, married 
Elizabeth A. (Huntley) Roberts, born 29 Jul 1840, no date of 
death.  They are buried at Jackson Prairie Cemetery.
   Urania Roberts, 24 Aug 1835 - 02 Apr 1852, buried at 
Jackson Prairie Cemetery.
