STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, 17 FEB 1886, p. 8, c.3, ARTICLE ON "24 YEARS AGO", 20 Jul 1904, p. 7, c 7, "75 YEARS OF AGE BY 01 JUN 1880" CHLOE (HARRIS) ROSE, 30 Apr 1802 - 02 Feb 1886 On Tuesday of last week the remains of Chloe Rose, mother of Rev. L. P. Rose were brought here from Urbana, Ohio, where it will be remembered she went last November to visit her grand-daughter, Mrs. Wm. Cool, better known to us as Miss Lena Rose. Mrs. Rose had been unusually well during the winter for a lady of her age and was not absent from the table but one meal. It is but a few years since Mr. and Mrs. Rose came to this place to spend the declining years of their life in the care of their grandson, M. T. Rose, and although their stay with us was short, they were loved and respected by all who knew them. A little more that a year ago Mr. Rose was called home, and now after so brief a waiting, their spirits are united in the mansions of the Master whom they both loved and served so faithfully through a long and useful life. The remains were accompanied by Rev. L. P. Rost and William Cool. The sympathies of the Orland friends are with the family. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Chloe (Harris) Rose, 30 Apr 1802 - 12 Feb 1886, was born in Shrewsbury, Mass. On 17 Mar 1818 in Neward, Licking County, OH, she married Hiram Prosper Rose, 22 Jan 1792 - 12 Nov 1884. They are buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, Orland, Steuben County, IN. Hiram Prosper Rose was the son of Hiram Rose, born 11 Nov 1766 in Granville, Hampshire (now Hampden) County, Mass.; died 18 Dec 1855 in Granville, Licking, OH; who on 29 Apr 1790 in Granville, Hampshire (now Hampden) County, Mass., married Sabra (Cooley) Rose, 15 Sep 1771 - 16 Aug 1854, born and died in Granville, Licking, OH. The only child of the marriage of Hiram Prosper Rose and Chloe (Harris) Rose listed in the Cemetery Books is the Hon. Luman Parsons Rose, 20 Sep 1826 - 10 Oct 1915, who, on 23 Apr 1846, married Emeline (Starr) Rose, 05 Jan 1825 - 17 Jan 1896, daughter of John Starr, born 01 Dec 1788 in Middleton, CT., and on 15 Apr 1808 married Sophia (Baker) Starr, 13 Dec 1792 - 13 Dec 1862 (per RootsWeb.com).
