STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, 20 Nov 1884, p.5, c.4 , ARTICLE ON "24 YEARS AGO", 20 Jul 1904, p7, c7, "75 YEARS OF AGE BY 01 JUN 1880" HIRAM PROSPER ROSE, 22 JAN 1792 - 12 NOV 1884, P5, C4. Hiram P. Rose, born in East Granville, Mass., January 22, 1792; died at Orland, Ind., November 12, 1884; aged 92 years, 9 months and 20 days. He emigrated with his parents, in company with fourteen families, in 1805, to central Ohio, then a dense forest. They brought the name of the town they left and their own church organization with them to plant in the wilderness. The town thus planted, Granville, Ohio, has for a half century been noted for its religious and educational advantages. Four large church edifices, a university with extensive buildings and two well patronized female seminaries are monuments of the character and enterprise of the colony that moulded the institutions of the new settlement. The deceased was marred in March, 1818, to the one now left to mourn a bereavement intensified by a continuously happy union of over 66 years; having lived in the same county in Ohio 76 years. The old couple came to Indiana in the evening of life to share the blessings of faithful filial affection and care, not lost by a removal of two generations. Mr. Rose united in 1828 with the same church brought by the fathers to the frontier, where his relation was continued for 37 years, when he removed to the bounds of another church in the same county where his name is still enrolled. His life was devoted to the institutions of christianity, and his death was in the triumphs of christian faith.
