STEUBEN REPUBLICAN, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1903, page 1, column 6 GEORGE RUDE, 23 Jan 1837 - 16 Aug 1903 George Rude was born in Allen county, Ind., Jan. 23, 1837, and died at his late home on Jackson Prairie, Aug. 16, 1903. His boyhood days were spent in DeKalb county, near Butler. In 1855, he married Miss Cinderella Wirick. Three sons and one daughter completed the number of their home circle, all of whom remain to know the loss of a father, also a mother who died in 1884. In 1885, he married Mrs. Anna Weaver, of LaGrange, who remains alone of their immediate household. Mr. Rude loved his family and home with a love native to an intense, noble heart. His farm and farm life held for him the magic charm of life to which his beautiful country home bears witness. In company with his neighbor, George Dutter, he was first and foremost in establishing for public benefit the Farmers' telephone line. Mr. Rude was a faithful, helpful member of the Methodist church. He died from heart trouble, and was sick only about one hour. He clearly realized his summons had come, and his face was lighted up with a glory not of earth, as he cheerfully bade farewell to loved ones. He went out with the silent boatman; out, and across the mystic tide. Now, he signals to earth's loved ones, meet here on the other side. Funeral took place from his late home, Wednesday morning, at 10:30, and was largely attended. Burial in the Jackson Prairie cemetery beside other members of his family. Rev. Peters delivered an impressive and eloquent sermon.
